My beautiful hummingbirds have finally flown in from the south and are happy at the hummingbird feeder again!
I saw a beautiful goldfinch yesterday just inches away from me just under the birdfeeder on our deck. He, along with many other finches, were eating thistle seeds that had fallen to the deck from the birdfeeder above.
I also feed my birds 1 c. of sunflower seeds every morning. If I'm late in getting it out, they all gather together and let me know in no uncertain bird-like terms that they are impatiently waiting until I finally get the seeds put out for them. Lots of red-winged blackbirds (small ones) and even a few with yellow and red! I've even had some of the finches fly towards the patio sliding doors and bang into it with their feet to try to get my attention! Good thing I'm seldom sick in bed...

Birds are amazing! Our feeder has daily (almost constant visitors!) from American Goldfinches, Chickadees, nuthatches, 1 female Northern Cardinal (she hasn't been around for about 1 week though ) Common Grackles,. The Great Blue Herons started to arrive about 2 weeks ago and their numbers are increasing daily. If I can learn how to use the avitar feature, I may use my bird photos...
What is your favourite bird???

Redfog, I heard about your snowstorm in the news and saw pictures of snow and ice on clusters of flowers! That is too bad. Hope it didn't hurt anything.
Daniel, I have lots of favorite birds but I suppose my most favorite is the song of the Hermit Thrush that flies to Alaska each summer. At our cabin we would hear him (and of course couldn't ever seem to find him--true to his name) but I videotaped the tree he was in just to get on tape his trill. I can't even express how beautiful it is.
Down here at home in the "lower 48" I suppose my favorite bird is the Mourning Dove because I can remember hearing them often when I was a little girl climbing trees to see if I could get closer to them. The doves are not real popular here because they nest in the tops of buildings in town and make such big messes...people always complaining about them.
My next favorite is the Meadlowlark that always seem to signal that winter is over and Spring has finally arrived even though they arrive when it is still a bit cool here.
Daniel, what is your favorite and why? Redfog, how about your favorite too? And anyone else?

My Mom gets hummingbirds in her back yard sometimes, and they are the most amazing little creatures. It almost seems impossible that their wings could beat as fast as they do -- and the migrations they undertake! Crossing the Gulf of Mexico nonstop, with those little wings beating 60-70 times a second. I've read that they eat more than their weight every day.

I also saw to really lovely things on TV the other day at separate times.
One was a man standing still with sunflower seeds on his hands. There were chickadees on his hands, on his head, on his shoulders, etc.
It was a lovely sight. They were not scared of him at all.
The other was a lady standing right beside a feeder for humming birds which were flying all around her. They were not afraid of her either.
That is a type of the way it will be in heaven and on the New Earth, except it will be a lot better than that.

Daryl, Heaven can't come soon enough for me!!
Our hummingbird feeder is on the back deck and we can sit just a few feet away and watch them. They will take a "sip" and look at me, then take a "sip" again back and forth.
Some of the hummers are beautiful--iridescent colors that seem to change colors in the sunlight.
I never get tired of watching them. When they leave in the early Fall, I always feel lonesome and wish them well on their long flights south.

Some lovely posts here that I really enjoyed reading. What a suprise to find new people here, I had almost given up as I was tired of talking to myself!
Favourite bird? Do you mean wild or avery birds?
Favourite wild bird has to be the bell bird for it's clear bell like toll from the trees. Beautiful sound.
Favourite avery bird is the cockatiel, as they can hold a conversation with you. Other birds in the avery just have their own song to sing.
