This report was in the Discovery News web page: "Stone-throwing baboons in Saudi Arabia waited three days on the side of a mountain road to take revenge on a driver who had killed one of their group. Al-Riyadh reported on Saturday that the primates laid in wait and ambushed the driver on the same mountain road in southwest Saudi Arabia from Mecca to Taif where the baboon had been run down earlier in the week. After spotting the car responsible for the death, one of the apes screamed out a signal to the rest to attack, provoking the frenzied stone throwing. although the driver was able to escape, the apes broke out the windshield of his car. At least 350,000 baboons live in the Gulf state." I don't know about the rest of you, but this report along with other monkey revenge attacks in recent months makes me ask some very deep questions. I remember in one Theology class the professor mentioned that Ellen White mentioned that conditions that called for God to cause a flood to come on the earth included the savagery of animals. ------------------ Today is the tomorrow you worried about yesterday. But, who was more savage, the apes or the human? __________________________ In His Love, Mercy & Grace Daryl

Boy Daryl, a "strait-man" question like that is too tempting... Baboons, revenge, medical experiments, the mid-eighties, British tabloids (I was in England at the time). Think on these lines.

Baboons may be more intelligent than we thought! Remember, I said intelligent, not wise! _____________________________________________ "For God so loved Daryl Fawcett that He gave His only Begotten Son that....." Daryl

We humans tend to think that animals are devoid of feelings. But studies and just observation of pets and other animals has shown that they have some kind of feelings and sense of loss at the death of one of their own. Ever see a pack of dogs [often strays] that hang out together? I've seen this and others have, that if one of them dies the others will hover around the body for sometime as if to protect it. God didn't make the animals like us, but he didn't make them automatons either. While I think that people can go overboard hiring pet psychologists and giving dogs antidepressants, they do have feelings. We've probably all seen dogs that have been so abused that they are fearful of people. They cower and hide from them. The baboons were acting out their pain and anger at the death of one of their own. It shows, not only feelings, but they remembered who it was who had done the deed! They didn't go after all the other vehicles on the road. They waited for the one they recognized was responsible. That shows some intelligence. ------------------ ________________________ Even so come, Lord Jesus Linda

I have to agree with you, Linda. Example one: As a former dog owner, I have seen how they can be "shamed." If our poodle did something that she knew was wrong, even though none of the rest of the family knew about it, she would put her tail behind her legs and hide under the table. It was only then that we would inquire of her what the "issue" was. Another example: One day in Winnipeg I was driving my minivan and a huge black dog stood by the side of the road. I started to slow down, but the dog looked straight into my eyes with a "proceed" message on her face. I sped up and the dog crossed the road right after I passed. Here it was--cross-species, strangers, yet we were communicating an intelligent, universal message. ------------------ Today is the tomorrow you worried about yesterday.
