Life Through the Holy Spirit is a really good study even though I didn't create it until now.

The link to this one is http://www.ssnet.org/qrtrly/eng/06b/less10nkjv.html

This study contained the following quote:

Quote:

Sin could be resisted and overcome only through the mighty agency of the Third Person of the Godhead, who would come with no modified energy, but in the fullness of divine power. It is the Spirit that makes effectual what has been wrought out by the world's Redeemer. It is by the Spirit that the heart is made pure. Through the Spirit the believer becomes a partaker of the divine nature.

This quote tells me that the Holy Spirit, along with the Father, was involved in the Plan of Salvation. It tells me that the Holy Spirit was needed in the Plan of Salvation, therefore, we can't limit it only to the Son.

Here also is an important quote from Sunday's study:

Quote:

As we've already seen, the Holy Spirit guides us into truth; that means, of course, He guides us to Jesus, for as He Himself said, "I am . . . the truth" (John 14:6). Yet, the truth about Jesus isn't just that He is God, which He is, or that He entered into humanity, which He did, or that He lived sinlessly, which is true; instead, the crucial truth about Jesus is that He died as a sacrifice for the sins of the world. No matter how important everything else about Jesus is, in the end, they all culminate in His substitutionary death in behalf of humanity. Any theology that ignores or weakens this point is deviating from the work of the Holy Spirit, who is to guide us into "all truth" (John 16:13), and Christ on the cross as our Substitute is the center of all truth (1 Cor. 2:2).

We need to hang onto this aspect of truth and not get so hung up on His human nature.

In His Love, Mercy & Grace,

John 8:32 And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.

I am interesting to know the connection between this quote:

As Christians, the foundation of our hope, our acceptance with God, stems not from anything we can do, not from any works of righteousness we can produce, not even from any fruit of the Spirit but only from the righteousness of Jesus credited to us by faith. This is our surety, our guarantee, the only sure foundation upon which we can have any assurance. Through the merits of Christ's perfect life, granted to us through nothing but God's grace—which is His unmerited favor toward us as wayward sinners—there is no condemnation for us (Rom. 8:1), either now or in the judgment.

And

2 Peter 3:11
Since everything will be destroyed in this way, what kind of people ought you to be? You ought to holy and godly lives.

Seems to me, if at the end it is Christ righteousness credited to us (Christ imparted righteousness?) that counts, why then all those hard efforts to live holy and godly?

Friday discussion lesson:
As we discuss the work of the Holy Spirit in us, why is it always crucial to remember that the basis of our salvation is what Christ has done for us? What dangers do we face if we ever lose sight of that crucial truth?

Just wait for next Quarter's fiasco with the sanctuary truth....which totally fails to answer this question, too. I use the German translation which reached me a few days ago, already.

Christ's righteousness "credited" to us is imputed righteousness, and it is critically experiential righteousness, so not merely "credited" to us in forgiveness. It is the foundation of our hope, our qualification for heaven, but it is not the holy and godly lives: that's imparted righteousness.

The investigative judgement isn't about keeping score of our misdeeds since it's extra lessons in righteous living so that the holy and godly deeds increase until God is satisfied that no more lessons are needed and he seals his people with his name: perfect victory over our nature by the power of Christ through his Spirit.

The judgement, let me emphasise this, is not about checking who the believers all are, but it finishes the character building of God's people and doesn't end until that task is finished. As long as this isn't understood by the SS lesson author and evaluation committees, confusion shall continue to be printed.

Next quarter's lesson won't help either, since our leading writers at present are less willing than you to find the answer.

Righteousness "Credited" to us is imputed while the sanctified, holy, godly lives we lead use imparted righteousness. The first regenerates us spiritually, experientially, not just a record of forgiveness. The latter is the actions flowing from that regeneration.

The lesson study evaluation committee must bare its part in confusing the situation: sanctification is only the experience and exercise of justification by faith, and fits us for heaven since we are qualified by justification. Godly lives lead to completed sanctification, since Jesus able to complete it in us, and that is practically indispensible.

The connection is that the lesson is a little confused!

Yes Collin, it is confusing.

Would this be an excuse for us if we didn't strive hard enough to remain holy and godly

That quote from the lesson is illustrative of the thinking of our current batch of thought leaders and their published writings - laymembers like us oppose them....that's why they keep drawing such contrasts, false contrasts.

The previous generation of Adventist writers made clear that Jesus himself is our assurance while we are actively accepted by the Father in our obedience: obedience is the experience of being saved from sin. Old school versus new school: they can't win against the old school, the founding principles of present truth, so this new philosophy can't prevail, thank God.

New school against old school. One quote says our assurance is from the righteousness of Jesus trough faith, the other says Jesus himself is our assurance. Um, what am I missing?
And more importantly, what does the bible say? Neither school has any value except what they derive from their foundation which must be either Jesus or something else. So lets move on from emotional rethoric to what the Bible teaches.

/Thomas

Galatians 2
21 I do not frustrate the grace of God: for if righteousness come by the law, then Christ is dead in vain.

It is so hazardous to take here a little and there a little. If you put the right little's together you can make the bible teach anything you wish. //Graham Maxwell
