I was asked a question about the Bible speaking about the existence of giant beasts/dinasaurs.

Can their existence be explained via the Bible and/or the SOP?

In other words, how did they evolve?

Were they created also?

Were they a mutation of something else?

Does any body have any answers for me?

I did a word search and only came up with the following Bible text:

Genesis 6:4 There were giants in the earth in those days; and also after that, when the sons of God came in unto the daughters of men, and they bare children to them, the same became mighty men which were of old, men of renown.

The SOP word search didn't come up with anything else.

Job 40:15-23 speaks of behemoth and give a description, but there is much debate over just what the creature was/is.

Job 41 speaks of leviathan, another creature which is well described, yet there is much debate over what it was/is.

SOP speaks of amalgamation of man and beast. There are 9 references for "amalgation" and 8 references for "amalgamated."

The two references most often cited are these:

I believe that it is worthwhile to note that all references of this nature are in EGW's earlier writings. When the book Patriarchs and Prophets was written, these references were left out. They have caused a lot of controversy.

Going back to the verse in Genesis, which mentions that the men before the flood were giants, they had to be giants both in size and intellect. Jesus said that the time just before He returned to earth would parallel those of the antediluvians. Someone once estimated that if man was 2 to 3 times as large as men today, judging their brain capacity, their IQ may have been sometime like 1500. Genius IQ today is 140.

What are we doing today? We are genetically altering plants and animals, and probably humans. We are mixing the species together in ways not found in nature. We are cloning animals, and probably (soon) humans. If we, with our limited intellects, have accomplished this, what might those whose intellect was many times present man's have accomplished? I's frightening to think about!

No, Daryl, you are thinking of a mule. A mule is a cross between a female horse and a male donkey. As a crossbreed, it is sterile and cannot reproduce.

Those EGW quotes have led me to speculate dinosaurs were the result of pre-flood man tampering with the gene pool. It is perfectly reasonable , at least to my mind, to suggest God did not lead dinosaurs into the Ark along with the other creatures purely because He did not create them.

Adam apparently named all of God's original creation within one 24 hour period. Gen 2:18-20. This point seems to suggest there could not have been a huge variety of species to begin with. This might also help us understand how God was able to fit one pair of all unclean and seven pairs of all clean animals into such a small vessel.

It's also interesting to note that the antediluvians figured out how to splice chromozones and create new species of animals. If it's safe to compare their scientific progression of discoveries with those of the 20th century then amazing obsservations might be made.

For example, 20th century man discovered space exploration first, then he went on to figure out how to manipulate the gene pool. If we allow these sequence of events to guide us in understanding the accomplishments of early man, then we might conclude he was also involved in space travel. Remember, "as it was in the days of Noah."

I'll stop with those comments for now, but if any one is interested I have developed these thoughts further to provide a possible link between asteroids, the Flood and the 7 trumpets of the Revelation. Personally, I believe the study is more than just sci-fi non-sense.

Mike, just a note: 2 (or 1 pair) of every unclean and 7 of every clean animal was taken into the ark. You said 7 pairs which I'm sure was just a grammatical error.

Most people used to think that whales were some kind of fish.

It is good to see that the Bible is clear about this subject. The creation story does distinguish between whales and fish. In Lam.4;3 we read: "Even the sea monsters draw out the breast; they give suck to their young ones."

By this, we can see how the Bible clearly states that whales are mammals; a fact that wasn't known in Bible times, but was discovered much later.

Some of these whales were/are up to 100 ft. long, and weigh as much as 115 tons!

Would that explain why the Bible calls them "monsters?"
