Source Link:http://new.channel5belize.com/archive_detail_story.php?story_id=17318 Adventist headquarters break-in yields plenty of cash Belize City police still do not know who stole over sixty-four thousand dollars from the Belize Seventh day Adventist Mission's office on A Street in Kings Park. Sometime between one on Friday afternoon and eight on Sunday night a thief or thieves removed louvers from one of the windows to gain access to the two storey building. Once inside, police say the burglars made their way into an office where they managed to break open a vault that held the loot. Stolen was a total of twenty-five thousand, two hundred and thirty-eight dollars in U.S. currency, along with thirteen thousand, six hundred and fifty-three dollars in Belize money. It is not known why so much cash was being held at the church headquarters. News Five was unable to contact Adventist officials for comment.
As it said in the quote, I am also wondering why there was so much cash there? I am also wondering if it were all insured?

It is my understanding that in many 3rd world nations the church has to work mostly with cash, including paying their staff.

If that's the case, then that would explain it, however, they had better secure it better than that.

Many countries have currency restrictions. Once the money is in a bank it is tracable, and those currency restrictions must be complied with.

Is Belize one of those countries, and, if so, then why wouldn't the SDA Church there comply with these restrictions?

HI Darryl,
In reference to your comment about the break-in and Church officials securing the money better:
It is a fact that very little will deter a determined thief, especially if the thief knows or is suspects that his crime will net him a major profit. It is also true that sometimes, crimes of this nature can be an "inside job". Please note that I am in no way accusing or pointing fingers of suspicion upon fellow brethern, but - during the war time here in Atlantic Canada a popular poster stated "Loose Lips Sink Ships". It may be a case where a "brother" or "sister" was overheard saying something. Anyway needless to say the loss is a significant one for our brethern there in that country. Lets hope that the funds can be recovered and all will end well...God is capbale of not only turning the thief in... but also converting the culprit to become a member of God's Remnant Church. Let us all pray to this end - that He will be glorifed.
Pastor John
