Sunday's section is called The Oppressors. Ecc. 4:1 So I returned, and considered all the oppressions that are done under the sun. And behold the tears of the oppressed ones, and they had no comforter! And on the side of those who oppressed them there was power, but they had no comforter.
2 And I commended the dead who already have died, more than the living who are living now.
3 Yea, better than both is he who has not yet been, who has not seen the evil work that is done under the sun.
What is Solomon trying to tell us here?

I guess I will also answer my own question. Solomon is telling us about all the oppression going on all around him. He is also acknowledging that isn't any protection from the oppressor. The oppression is so bad that only death can free a person from the oppression. Oppression is so so bad that it would be better if the person was never even born to experience the oppression. From Sunday's section: Solomon is, again, looking at life from a worldly perspective, from "under the sun." These words, though, are somewhat interesting when you consider who is writing them: the king himself. It would be one thing if a slave were bemoaning his fate at the hands of his or her masters or if a poor person were lamenting his or her fate under the oppression of the rich. But in this case, you have the richest and most powerful leader in the nation complaining about injustice and oppression.
What kind of oppression could Solomon be referring to that would cause him to say it like this?

When one reads about what happened during the first months of the reign of Solomons son, one gets the impression that Solomon himself was one of the major oppressors in Israel at that time.
1Ki 12:2 And it came to pass, when Jeroboam the son of Nebat heard of it (for he was yet in Egypt, whither he had fled from the presence of king Solomon, and Jeroboam dwelt in Egypt, 1Ki 12:3 and they sent and called him), that Jeroboam and all the assembly of Israel came, and spake unto Rehoboam, saying, 1Ki 12:4 Thy father made our yoke grievous: now therefore make thou the grievous service of thy father, and his heavy yoke which he put upon us, lighter, and we will serve thee.
Galatians 2 21 I do not frustrate the grace of God: for if righteousness come by the law, then Christ is dead in vain.
It is so hazardous to take here a little and there a little. If you put the right little's together you can make the bible teach anything you wish. //Graham Maxwell

Monday's section is titled Is Life Worth It? The answer, ultimately, depends upon your view of what the meaning of life is. If one takes the position that our life here is capped and culminated at death and that nothing comes after, you will have one view. If you believe that this life is only a temporary stop on the way to something better, something eternal, then you will have another view. Thus, in many ways, the answer to the question Is life worth it? depends, ironically enough, on the question.
What do you all here think of this question? Is life worth it?
As it says at the bottom of Monday's section, "Give a yes or no answer and then defend your position the best you can, using whatever Bible texts you deem necessary."
