The thread Fear Not (sermon by Arnold Sy Go) is closely related to this week's topic. That sermon focused on the events of the Red Sea crossing, and why God led them to that dead end in the first place.

There is no excuse for any one in taking the position that there is no more truth to be revealed, and that all our expositions of Scripture are without an error. The fact that certain doctrines have been held as truth for many years by our people, is not a proof that our ideas are infallible. Age will not make error into truth, and truth can afford to be fair. No true doctrine will lose anything by close investigation. RH 12/20/1892

Why did God bring the Israelites to a place where He knew they would be terrified? One of the reasons I see is that God wanted to show them that He can take care of them if they trust Him. Even that which terrifies them so much is no problem for God. He wanted them to learn that if they stick with Him, there's really nothing to be scared about. "Fear not," Moses told them, because he knew that he was with God.
By God's grace, Arnold
