The Blessings of the Sabbath

I am now in the early morning daylight and sunny hours of the Sabbath, therefore, I thought it would be a good idea to do a study on the blessings of the Sabbath. Let me begin by asking you what does the Bible say about the blessings of the Sabbath? In response to this question, let me begin by sharing one Bible reference on this question and topic: quote:
Isaiah 58:13 If thou turn away thy foot from the sabbath, from doing thy pleasure on my holy day; and call the sabbath a delight, the holy of the LORD, honourable; and shalt honour him, not doing thine own ways, nor finding thine own pleasure, nor speaking thine own words: 14 Then shalt thou delight thyself in the LORD; and I will cause thee to ride upon the high places of the earth, and feed thee with the heritage of Jacob thy father: for the mouth of the LORD hath spoken it.
It is interesting to note that this is the only place in the Bible that refers to the Sabbath as a delight which according to this text they were supposed to be considering the Sabbath to be, therefore, is the Sabbath a delight to you? If so, then you are receiving one of the blessings of the Sabbath.
If delighting in the Sabbath is one blessing, then what are some of the other blessings of the Sabbath?

Daryl.
I am sorry, but I think that the blessing was for the jews only who has the law, it is not for the Gentiles who hasn't the law.
Since the cross, is there any Sabbath reference that said it is still a blessing for Christ's believers?
In His love

James, After the Cross can you find a text that tells us that the Sabbath is not a blessing to us any longer?
Mary and the ladies came to the tomb after the Sabbath was over so they could embalm the body of Jesus, why did the closest friends of Jesus not know the Sabbath ended at the cross?
Daryl, Sabbath is a delight because we can put all the "cares of this world" out of our minds and think/read/watch 3ABN all about Jesus and our Heavenly paradise soon to come...plus the fellowship of like believers, is such a pleasure

James I am so sorry that you do not receive a blessing on the Sabbath Day. Do you believe that Saturday is the Sabbath? Beginning from sundown on Friday to sundown on Saturday night? I thought I read somewhere on the forum that you said you are a SDA. Was I wrong?
Acts 13:42 And when the Jews were gone out of the synagogue, the Gentiles besought that these words might be preached to them the next sabbath.
Here the Gentiles are wanting to have these same words preached to them on what day? The Sabbath day. You would think that if the Sabbath was no longer binding these people would have known it by now.
Acts 13:44 And the next sabbath day came almost the whole city together to hear the word of God.
Look here!!! Almost the whole city came out when? The next Sabbath Day.
Daryl..Amen. The scripture you used about the Sabbath being a delight is my favorite one. The Sabbath is surely a delight for me. Extra time to spend with God and his children. What a blessing I recieve going to church and being with those of like mind..who love God and keep His Commandments.

Daryl,
The sabbath is an absolute blessing for me, in many ways.
Since I work from out of my home, and make 'house calls' to work on people's computers at their locations, some folks seem to think I'm at their beck and call 24/7. Well, the Sabbath gives the perfect reason to tell them that there are 24 hours every week when I'm only available to do God's work; that if they want me to come over on a Saturday, that's fine -- but it'll be to do a Bible study, not to work on a broken computer!
While it's true that we should worship God every day, the Sabbath gives us opportunity to be more single-minded about it. There are lots of things stacked up around here, on the to-be-read list, about church history, current events, prophecy, etc. -- and it seems that more of that reading gets done during the Sabbath hours than any other time.

James -- here we are again, debating another of the most basic of SDA doctrines. What is your purpose here? You're starting to sound more like a Jesuit than an SDA. Not that I'm saying you are one; but the things you've posted here lately sound more Catholic than Adventist. [Daryl, if that's out of line, please say so. I'm not wanting to be an 'accuser of the brethren', but sometimes things get too blatant to let pass.]
If you'll look carefully at the passage Daryl posted, it ends up with, "for the mouth of the LORD hath spoken it." Isaiah 58:14. In another place, God says, "My covenant will I not break, nor alter the thing that is gone out of My lips." Psalm 89:34. Is that plain enough? God says He spoke the Sabbath blessing with His mouth, and that He will not change the thing that is gone out of His lips.
(On a similar note, God also *spoke* the Ten Commandments "with a great voice: and He added no more." Deuteronomy 5:22.)
Another verse: "Thou blessest, O Lord, and it shall be blessed for ever." 1 Chronicles 17:27.
Of course, given some of the things you've posted in the 'Ten Commandments' thread, I expect that you'll find some way to twist the plain meaning of these verses too, and say that I don't know what I'm talking about, something like that. The problem is, that all of the Bible writers, and Ellen White, who was an inspired prophet also, and most of the people posting here, agree on the holiness and obligation to keep God's law, and the continuing blessings of the Sabbath. When you strike out on your own, and oppose all these spiritual people/minds, and say that you're the only one who knows what's going on -- it reminds me of a few pertinent Bible verses:
"There is a way which seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death." -- Proverbs 14:12
"Be not wise in your own conceits." -- Romans 12:16
"Yea, all of you be subject one to another, and be clothed with humility: for God resisteth the proud, and giveth grace to the humble." -- 1 Peter 5:5

The phrase "doing thy pleasure on my holy day" has been ripped out of its context and used to beat people up. I also realize it has been used to lead people back to Jesus.
What's the difference between "pleasure" and "delight"? Sabbath keeping can and should be a very pleasing experience.
