You are seeing it on the national news. Northern Colorado is flooding to an extent that most would not imagine.
This level of rain is expected to last into and possibly through Saturday. In many places the current level is considered to be equivalent to a one in one-hundred year possibility. Where I live it is called a one in five-hundred year possibility. It is bad in the city of Boulder, Boulder County, Broomfield and Longmont. The probability exists that SDA Members and property may be affected.

In Longmont, where I live, as of yesterday, 7,000 homes have been evacuated. We live on a slight rise that means that we are not likely to ground flood. However, the flooded area is less than two blocks away. Yesterday, two of the three routes to where I live were under water. the one open route of 12 miles took me one hour to drive. I do not know if that route is open today, or if it will remain open in the future. We were without electricity and gas for 7-hours yesterday. We have it now.

Praying for your safety.

It must be disturbing that your neighbors are being evacuated.

"Here is a last piece of advice. If you believe in goodness and if you value the approval of God, fix your minds on the things which are holy and right and pure and beautiful and good. Model your conduct on what you have learned from me, on what I have told you and shown you, and you will find the God of peace will be with you."

My wife and I are very thankful.

http://www.timescall.com/longmont-local-...-st-vrain-river

For more about where we live see the above. This afternoon and Saturday are expected to be bad.

One example from the city of Boulder: Boulder Creek normally flows between 100 and 300 cubic feet per second. Yesterday it reached 4,500 cubic feet per second!

Gregory, are you still safe? It seems the floods in that area have worsened, if I understand the news correctly, and we haven't heard much from you the past 24 hours.

In my own stomping grounds (stateside) the winds have been up to 70 MPH or more, and extensive power outages have accompanied the great thunderstorms. Apparently, some tornado watches or warnings were issued, and it is not a tornado area. The weather is definitely not normal.

I hope you're still high and dry and not floating away on the river. Perhaps you are just experiencing a power outage. Let us know how you're doing as soon as you're able.

May God keep you safe,

Green Cochoa.

Green:

Thank you for your interest. I live in Longmont, which is experiencing a 1 in 500 year flood. I live 1/2 blocks from the flood water and police and National Guard road blocks are near. However, my home is on a rise and would never ground flood. Under the right circumstances if a lot of water flowed down our back yard, some would be diverted into our exit to the basement. That is not likely to happen.

We were out of electricity for 7 hours Thursday. Otherwise we have had full utillities.

God is good.

We have been stranded in town which has three major entry/exit routes. Two are not serviceable--bridge down, etc. The third one has been open and closed. We are under curfew. I made it to work at 4 A.M. by traveling that route and evading the curfew police. smile smile So, I am writing this from my hospital job in Denver.

The damage in Northern Colorado is unbelieveable. Thousands are evaucated from their homes. Longmont evacuated 7,200 homes Thurdsay, let people go back to 1,300 on Saturday and Sunday evaucated them again along with more.

17 miles of road in the Big Thompson Canyon is gone. The people living off that road have been told that it will likely be one year or more before they will be able to visit their homes. That does not mean live in them, if they want to do so.

Current estimates say that 108 homes were totally destroyed in the city of Lyons and hundreds more damages. We know of one elderly SDA family living in Lyons who got out with one vehicle, the clothes on their backs, a Bible and some important papers. Their home is totaled. They got out with nothing else.

The videos are all over the Internet. In Big Thompson Canyon people are being rescued by zip-line.

Green: So where do you live in the U.S?

Gregory,

It's good to hear that you are safe.

I do not live in the U.S. I am in South-east Asia. I was referring to my hometown in the U.S. where I lived before going abroad. I think I should have said "old" stomping grounds. Sorry for the confusion.

I don't understand how the authorities can legitimately keep people away from their homes for such a long period of time, and/or even prevent them from living there ever again. That must be rough. If the state is taking over their land by right of eminent domain, should the former landowners at least receive compensation for their property?

Blessings,

Green Cochoa.

Public safety.

Let us take the Big Thompson Canyon for an example:

This is a long and narrow canyon that winds between two sets of high mountain peaks. There is a river that drains the nearbymountains that runs through the bottom of the canyon. On one side there is a paved road that has litterly been carved out of the side of the mountain.

The canyon has homes that sit on the other side of the river and/or on small flat spaces. The homes are connected to the road by privately owned bridges.

In July 1976 a flash flood roared through that narrow canyon. That flash flood was a wall of water that reached 20 feet high. I distroyed just about everything that it reached.

This storm (the one this weekend) destroyed the 17 miles of road in the canyon--small sections of ashpault remain. It removed the bridges that the people had built to connect between their homes and the road.

Emergency personnel are working to evacuate the stranded people who are still alive. They are haveing to erect "zip lines" to get people across the river to portions of the road that still exist, but are not safe for vehicle traffic.

Google Big Thompson Flood. You will find videos of the 1976 flood and current videos. You can view the zip lines and washed out sections of the road. With winter snow comming, it will probably be a year or more before a road can be built and people allowed to visit their homes.

The canyon walls are mostly to steep for anyone other than a mountain goat to climb. NOTE: The mountain goats do climb them and people come to watch.

As for other property. In the current State of Emergency, the government has the authority to prohibit people from entry to proplery during the time that they would be in clear danger of death. That is what the situation is. People are being evacuated from homes wherer they might die if they stayed.

In some cases the evacuation is voluntary and some people are staying. In other places it is not voluntary.

Literally, there are places where the homes are gone. Empty foundations remain. But there is not other evidence of a home being in that place. It is all gone, destroyed and swept down the raging river.

This one shows what is coming down from the mountains. This one took ou17 miles of road. A lot of people lived at the side of this road.

NOTE: You can cut and past if you can't click on it.

I have mentioned the elderly SDA couple who lived in Lyons and lost everything.

I saw a photo today of where their home used to be. There is a corner of a shed still standing which allows one to locate where their home used to be.

Where it once was, is a flowing river. The river carved a new channel and one cannot even see the foundation of their former home. Everything was carried down stream. Once the river flow decreases, perhaps there will be so me foundation visible? Perhaps not.

My wife was out with the woman today helping her to purchase clothing as they got out with only the clothes that they were wearing.
