I'd like to devote a thread to some of the things we learn when we ponder Scripture and add information that we get along the way.
Here is something about Noah's Ark. Have you ever wondered why attempts for translators to put "boat" or "ship" in place of "Ark" have never worked? Here's a theory from "1,001 More Things You Always Wanted to Know About the Bible":
An Ark, Not a Ship:
Genesis gives us the dimensions of Noah"s ark--translated into modern measurements, the ark would have been around 437 feet long, 72 feet wide, and 44 feet deep. While artists have had fun putting the ark into pictures, they usually get it wrong. The ark was, based on the dimensions just given, a long, low barge, one that would have barely risen above the water line. It was, as the name indicates an ark--that is, a chest, not a ship in the usual sense. Unlike a normal ship or boat, it had no sail or rudder--and why would it, for with the whole world being flooded, there was nowhere to steer toward.
