Monday, November 11, 2002 is Remembrance Day in Canada. I don't know about other countries, but in Canada we wear a poppy in remembrance of what so many Canadians did so that we are able to enjoy the freedom we have today. Click on the link below and learn more about it: http://www.canoe.ca/RemembranceDay/poppy.html

Here is a poem for little children about Remembrance Day.
Remember
"Remember," said our teacher. . . .
We are little children who do not know of war, Of young men dying far from home so many years before.
How can we remember the wars we did not know? Of youthful sons and daughters who rallied to the call? They sleep beneath a foreign sod where pretty poppies grow.
You are the ones to tell us of things we do not know. A legacy of memories to make our very own, So that some day when you are gone. . .
We WILL Remember. [ November 11, 2002, 12:50 PM: Message edited by: Faith ]

And here we are again, three years later, remembering the 60th anniversary of the end of World War II.

WWII? I thought it was WWI. Well in any case here in the US we call it Veterans Day. I think I like Remembrance Day just as well if not better.

It was World War II that ended in 1945.
1945 + 60 = 2005 (The 60th anniversary of the end of World War II).

Thanks for the math lesson, Daryl. Yesterday was Veterans Day, but today during the worship service, we remembered the fallen vets as well as the service men and women currently serving. During the offering time, the person giving the call had all the vets stand up and we had a few moments of silence for prayers of thanks for them. It was really moving. I'm very thankful for the freedoms we have.

But isn't your Remembrance day based on the end of WWI? The 11th month, 11th day, 11th hour...? I obviously know that it is 60 years since the end of WWII

It may have originally been based on World War I, however, since who knows when, it is my understanding that it is based on both world wars.
