This over-the-hill woman has finally made a foray into MP3. I put off getting into it because I figured that with the Napster problems, and rock music, that it was for the young and I probably wouldn't find anything in the lines of hymns or classical music. Boy, was I wrong! It seems that the largest area for downloading MP3 is mp3.com where there is a wide selection of music to pick from. Right now I am downloading instrumental Christmas music. With a CD burner and Musicmatch Jukebox (A free program that helps you burn the tracks to CD. There are several programs available, but this one is highly recommended.) I plan to have a few CDs to use for Christmas presents. You can listen to the music before you download it, so you don't get something you can't stand. If anyone else is into downloading music and buring their own CDs or wants to, lets share ideas and music sites where we can get the kind of music we like. ------------------ Jesus is the joy of living _________________________ Linda

I know that a lot of the young people are into music downloading, but it's new to me. Anyway, I thought I'd better put something here about MUSICMATCH Jukebox that I have found out. It seems to be a good program if you make a few changes. I installed it this morning. The next time I went online, my browser (IE) acted funny. It wouldn't bring up my home page and I would have to click on "Detect Browser Options" which would then bring up the page. Since I hadn't been having any trouble, I figured that it might have something to do with MusicMatch Jukebox. I opened it and clicked a couple of items in the settings, and then opened the browser again. It brought my home page right up. If you decided to use the program, and you have problems with your browser, here's what I did. Go to Options/Settings. Under "General" uncheck the box for "Periodically check for updated versions of MUSICMATCH." Then click on "CDDB/Connectivity" and uncheck to box for "Enable CDDB CD lookup service." It is probably this last one that was causing the problem, but I don't care to check the other one just to find out. Also be prepared to put up with the "please upgrade" screen everytime you close the program. The things we do for freebies. If you go to MP3.com to find music, there is not a religious music link on the home page. You have to look under "Easy Listening" and some others are stuck in a few other places. Strange, but apparently they don't think it deserves a link of its own. I plugged "MP3 hymns" into a search engine and found a number of sites. Most of the downloadable music on those websites are MIDI files, and their MP3s are at MP3.com. They will have a link that takes you there. Seems to be the easiest way to get to the music I want. ------------------ Jesus is the joy of living _________________________ Linda

I am still having trouble with IE, even though I finally uninstalled MusicMatch Jukebox. I can't find anything at the website that says anything about causing problems with the browser, so I don't know if this is unique or not. ------------------ Jesus is the joy of living _________________________ Linda

It's 11-30-01 @ 04:37 and I can not go past the identity screen in a private forum (moderators). I think the jukebox program has corrupted some of our stored info or browser or something. I would wait a while before installing it, to anyone out there. Anyone have anyother jukebox programs that are good & also use same brouser as us without any trouble ? ------------------ Edward F Sutton

Well, I haven't downloaded any music so far, but my prayer buddy has and he has even burned a CD! He tells me that he downloaded MP3's, and used EZ CD Creator to burn it... and now he can play that CD in his boombox. And he's a newbie!!! I will ask him to email me the url he gets his music from... I listened to the CD on Thanksgiving and it was very nice religious music...

I've downloaded music a time or two. I recommend WinAmp (www.winamp.com) for playing back music, it is by far the best. Not sure about RealJukebox though, I don't like real-audio stuff. Their players seem buggy.

Well, it took me a few months, but I have burned quite a few CDs. I have found a lot of music I can download from the internet free sites without using Kazaa or any other file sharing site. And surprise, there is a lot of religious music like hymns available.
