Mrs. Ellen G White passed the tests of a true prophets: Isaiah 8:20- TO THE LAW AND TO THE TESTIMONY! if they dont speak according to this word, they have no light in them. Jeremiah 28:9 But the prophet who prophesies peace will be recognized as one truly sent by God only if his PREDICTION COMES TRUE.Matth. 7:20.BY THEIR FRUIT U WILL RECOGNIZED THEM. 1 John 4:2 This is how u can recognized the Spirit of God EVERY SPIRIT THAT ACKNOWLEDGES THAT JESUS CHRIST HAS COME IN THE FLESH IS FROM GOD. but every spirit that doesnot acknowledge Jesus is not from God. Therefore, these 4 texts will proved that Ellen G. White is really a true prophet. She followed the Ten Commandments and the testimony of Jesus. And Believe Jesus came as a man to redeem the world and save us. She believed that the Word of God-the Bible is the standard by which all teaching and experience must be tested. All her prediCtions come true like: 1. 1864- EGW said, that cancerous germs may lay dormant in the system through out life. 1956 Dr. Windell Stanley-University of California, virologist said, It is known that viruses can live in the human body for years even a life time. Newsweek June 8,1956 2. 1864 EGW said, "tobacco is a poison of the most deceitful and malignant kind" MH p 327. 1957 The American Cancer Society said: The sum total of scientific evidence establishes beyond reasonable doubt that cigarrette smoking is a causative factor in carcinoma of the lungs. Smoking and Health p 40. 3. 1905-EGW said the use of LIquor and tobacco destroys the sensitive nerves of the brain. 1970. Dr.A.Q Maisel. said "startling new evidence indicates that even the moderate use of liquor or tobacco may incur some loss of irreplaceable brain cells. Alcohol &your brain .Readers Digest June 1970 4.1863.EGW said:"grains, fruits and vegetables are the most healthful and nourishing. MH p 296. 1958 Clive Mc Cay PhD. prof of Nutrition Cornel University N.Y. said. "Ellen White died before modern biochemistry and composition of foods, but if the people followed her plan even today they would be far better fed". Natural Food and Farming may 1953.
And lot more predictions on my lists..ELLEN G. WHITE PASSED THE TESTS OF A TRUE PROPHET, SHE WAS A TRUE PROPHET

Evejane, your Bible texts are correct! Mrs. White was a true prophet according to the Bible standard.
My list of texts will overlap with yours but I'm going to list them here:
Isa. 8:20 1 John 4:2-3 Mt. 7:15-20 Num. 12:6 Jere. 23:16-17 Deut. 18:21-22
I believe there are actually two more but I can't seem to find my list that has them!
If a person has an open mind wanting to know truth, he will find it in the Bible concerning if a prophet is a true one or not.
Then do what Evejane did, read Mrs. White's books and see if what she has said has come to pass or not!!

I think we may be jumping ahead of the topic as I am presently looking for a listing of the tests for any true prophet of God, not necessarily pertaining only to EGW. Interesting medical information though which I would like us to also pursue further here later on, or even as a separate topic. [ February 03, 2005, 01:53 PM: Message edited by: Daryl Fawcett ]

To answer that question so we can soon move on to the first question in the first post, here is a list that I have come across:
1 - A true prophet does not lie. His/her predictions will be fulfilled (Jeremiah 28:9).
2 - A true prophet prophesies in the name of the Lord, not in his/her own name (2 Peter 1:21).
3 - A true prophet does not give his/her own private interpretation of prophecy (2 Peter 1:20).
4 - A true prophet points out the sins and transgressions of the people against God (Isaiah 58:1).
5 - A true prophet is to warn the people of God's coming judgment (Isaiah 24:20,21; Revelation 14:6,7).
6 - A true prophet edifies the church, counsels, and advises it in religious matters (1 Corinthians 14:3,4).
7 - A true prophet's words will be in absolute harmony with the words of the prophets that preceded him/her (Isaiah 8:20).
8 - A true prophet recognizes the incarnation of Jesus Christ (1 John 4:1-3).
9 - A true prophet can be recognized by the results of his/her work (Matthew 7:16-20).
10 - A true prophet acts in the will and the approval of God (Deuteronomy 18:9-12).
11 - The actions of a true prophet are not in contradiction to basic Biblical doctrines, but rather support and strengthen precepts already outlined.
Feel free to discuss any or all of the above that I have listed.

Deuteronomy 18:22 When a prophet speaketh in the name of the LORD, if the thing follow not, nor come to pass, that is the thing which the LORD hath not spoken, but the prophet hath spoken it presumptuously: thou shalt not be afraid of him.

So was Jonah a false prophet?
Jonah 3:4 "And Jonah began to enter into the city a day's journey, and he cried, and said, Yet forty days, and Nineveh shall be overthrown."

First, are there any other tests of a true prophet of God that I may have missed?
If not, then let us use these tests in relation to Jonah, as John has already done, and any other Bible prophets of God before comparing them to Ellen White, and/or any other so-called, or so-claimed, modern prophets.

More to come. I will edit this post to add mreo verses if that is Ok. God Bless, Will

Please read Jonah 4:1-2
Prior to going to Nineveh, Jonah knew that there was a strong possibility that the city would not be destroyed if the people repented. That is why he fled to Tarshish. He wanted God to destroy Nineveh.
This is NOT a very good example of a prophet failing the test of a "True Prophet".
Jonah knew beforehand that the "message of doom" that he was told to give to the Ninevites was "conditional".
