Guess thre's not much doubt as to which country I prefer!!! I've lived in Riverside, California and Hanford California for a combined total of 4 years....too hot and smoggy, and tooooooo many people!Do you all realize that the population of California alone, is equal to all of Canada? Brother Ed, I haven't even seen a moosein my county... (actually there are a few left), but certainly nothing in " my neck of the woods"! Speaking of "woods", quite often I forget to lock the house and garage doors. Want to guess how often I've been broken into? ZILCH! So living in the woods has its advantages! 'course, as the neighbor told a preacher (the preacher was calling on one of his parishoners, when he could find him). "Reverend, you're safe here. There ain't a Christian within miles!" Sad part is, most of my neighbors don't darken a church door, as they say "Too many hyper-crites attend church"! The BIG CITY of Pugwash population...hmmm, probably ?1000! Love it! Me and my back 22 acres! Now if I could just decrease the mosquito population. There ain't a single one, but zillions of 'em Zillions BTW means MANY- MORE THAN ONE! They all call it CAN-ADA, but I CALL IT HOME! LMe

I have been to canada and must confe ss I was impressed. Beautiful country, friendly people, but, USA is home amd I miss it greatly when away for too long. Life is good here in the northwoods of the lower P., so, will stay 'til I die or the Lord comes back........ or they haul me away because I won't do what they want. ------------------ Examine me, O LORD, and prove me: try my reins and my heart. Ps.26:2 It is better to trust in the LORD than to put confidence in men.Ps.118:8

After what happened on September 11th, I think we now know the answer to this question.

Zyph: I'd hate to have to point out to you, that Australia along with Great Briton far exceed either the United States or Canada for the rate of "Violent Crime" committed against the population. This was from a study done comparing victim crime rates, done by Lyden University in the Netherlands a year or so ago, under the auspices of the U.N. While Canada certainly is a safer place statistically then the U.S......still the U.S. was far down the list of countries where the innocent civilian could statistically expect to be the victim of a violent crime. Still I'd love to visit your country someday, anyway.

Ah, J R, that's just propaganda that we spread to keep everyone else out! But if you're very good, maybe one day you'll be rewarded with a trip here. Seriously, I have been to the United States - New York City - and I know the people there had excellent manners. They didn't know I was a foreigner, but on public transport my four year old son and I were offered seats all the time; people held open doors of shops, etc; People just had a nice - if slightly assertive - manner that I found appealing. But I was always aware that under all that heavy clothing lurked lots of guns! Interesting statistics. Are you sure they weren't counting the crocodile and brown snake attacks? Seriously again, I suspect violence would be related to substance abuse, and we certainly are a nation of drinkers. The best way to protect yourself is to shave your head, get some tattoos, carry a length of four by two, and adopt an angry look. Works for me!! LOL

Zyph: re:" but on public transport my four year old son and I were offered seats all the time; people held open doors of shops, etc; People just had a nice - if slightly assertive - manner that I found appealing." IN NYC? Amazing! (gggg) totally unheard of (gggg). re:"But I was always aware that under all that heavy clothing lurked lots of guns!" Not really, NYC and State has some of the most restrictive fireams laws in this country. (along with the States of Mass, Calif, and Washington DC) The state of Vermont...which is perhaps our most liberal (politically) state...has the most liberal firearms law...yet is one of our safest states. Yeah...New Yorkers are somewhat "assertive"

The restrictive gun laws in New York appear not to be having the desired effect on public safety. But I really did find the people generally friendly, if cautious.
