What do you think of the Winter Olympics so far?
Is there any passion out there for this quadrennial event?

The only excitement was the robbery at the figure skating event.
The canadian pair were robbed.
And they didn't use a gun, either.

Yes, I heard about it on the CBC News as they interviewed the robbed pair.

Somehow this "robbery" has hit a nerve with our country. Everyone in the stores and shops seems to be talking about this "injustice."

One article noted that the wronged pair have been the darlings of judges for years. Now they're on the wrong end of the system. They'll have to deal with that.

Who here hasn't met up with that "unfair" teacher whose grade you have to accept without an asterisk? Who hasn't seen an expensive constituency meeting of a corporation where the "fix is in" from the very start? Rules set down by the universe itself seem to have no bearing on the outcome.

One of the ice-dancers (Shae-Lynne Borne)who will perform later in the Olympics is from Chatham. Our local media outlets are already reporting that the judges have already decided Borne and Kratz will finish 5th. Let's see...

No wonder they're called the Olympic Games. Certainly sports outcomes can't be determined upon how brightly the "competitor" smiles.

Oh well, "Bread and Circuses" I guess.

E.G. White said "When people are busy playing games of not much value the devil is playing the game of life with their souls."

The last Olympic games I watched was the winter games of 1992. The Holy Spirit had me under strong conviction at the time to trash my TV once and for all.

When I saw the temple in Greece where the flame is called out of the air for the torch, and realized who is behind that... it came to my mind that all who perform under that flame are giving omage to the devil.

The final straw was being told by their coach that the Russian pairs, who were not landing any of their jumps, were taken to their coach's hotel room where she hypnotized them for FOUR hours and later they went on to win the gold.

Imagine, giving your soul to the devil for a piece of gold that will be thrown to the bats and moles!!

Also, none of the athletes are commandment keepers... they all break the Sabbath.

I'm not judging them, just stating the ideas that came to my mind at that time about the "games".

After thinking the above thoughts, I took my little TV and put it into two plastic bags and threw it down on the balcony as hard as I could... where it promptly broke the tube and scattered a fine spray of tinsy glass slivers that I spent 3 hours sweeping up!!

Praise the Lord!! I've not had a TV since!!

I have watched one for a couple of hours since... but sure didn't like what it did to my mind.

Personally, I believe that God's people need to get their TV's out of their homes.

Now before you say that it's alright to watch 3ABN, etc... do you really stop with just our own programs?? Besides, our programs are geared toward people who don't know about God... so they are "pablum" so to speak...

Isn't it time for us to get into the "meat of the Word"... and stop living on "pablum"??

I'm sure not judging anyone... how each one relates to their TV is between them and God. I just know what a difference getting rid of mine for the last time made in my life. I wouldn't go back to watching one on a steady (or unsteady) basis for anything.

Karen, I think it's true that you can't maintain a walk with God and watch television at the same time. I disagree about the pablum. Why put down something that is aimed at winning souls to Christ?

Having said that, I now wish to go on and mention the screams of laughter and delight in my household when the Oz speed skater won the gold medal. Our first ever at a winter olympics. Not quite the same as the Jamaican bobsled team, but not far off.

While the Olympics were on, a member of the silver-winning Canadian Women's Softball team came to my son's classroom. She spent a selfless hour and a half telling everyone about her Summer Olympic experience, answering questions and letting everyone hold her silver medal. Each child brought back home the web site of the Canadian Softball team and a new appreciation for the sport.

While some say that sports figures shouldn't be called "heroes," I think we should be grateful for those who truly carry their roles with dignity.

Also, a note to Borne (Chatham native) and Kraatz (Canada's ice dancing competitors who found a way to stay off the metal podium): At the end of the programme you're supposed to pose and give a big Max Mace smile--not fall down and crack up!

A pretty good Olympics, though, for Canada. Everyone here is smiling about the hockey win.

Same here, in Estonia! These were the best Winter Olympics at all for Estonia, because we got 3 medals in country-skiing: 1 gold, 1 silver, 1 bronze. This also gave a break to the over-saturated political debats (about EU and NATO) here in Estonia and units people!
