This 'longevity game' is at the Northwestern Mutual Life Insurance site, and I sure can't vouch for its accuracy; though you'd think a life insurance company would have an interest in the longevity of its clients. It was interesting, though, to pop in different values in the lifestyle categories, and see how the expected lifespan changes.

http://www.nmfn.com/tnetwork/longevity_game_popup.html

I put in my vital statistics, lifestyle choices, etc. and it says I can expect to live to be 87 years old. If I start exercising more, and wear a seatbelt 100% of the time (which I don't always do around town), it says 90 or 91.

When I changed the values to reflect the kind of lifestyle I was living not too many years ago (and the extra 10 pounds that came off in 2004), it said I could expect to die before 60!

(BTW, this isn't meant to be a suggestion that anyone buy life insurance; EGW wrote in no uncertain terms that we shouldn't engage in that.)

Don't worry Jan: if ya die tommorrow, your first thought on Resurrection Morning will be, "Wow! He has come in my lifetime!"

Every been knocked out? It's just like that....no time lapse...no memory of being out at all.

well, putting in my current info, it says 88 for me. But, since I am rapidly losing weight because of gastric bypass surgery, I put in what I expect to be by next year...... and it says 91. I could live with either of those choices..... but I prefer the longer life because it means I have lost LOTS more WEIGHT!!!! LOL

Well, mine was 86. I am overweight, that's about the only thing not going for me... If I were at the right weight for my height, my number changed to 90. I also put the age that I will be in less than 2 weeks, but that didn't make a difference.

Mine was 93. But I need to lose many more pounds and exercise more. I also couldn't answer that stress is a good thing for me--it sure isn't. So those are the areas I'm working on. I would think if I walked every day regularly, the stress would be better in my life.

John, did you really lose 10 pounds on a strictly vegan diet? That is what I need to do--be more strict about it. I need to remember that I won't starve and blow away in the wind if I miss a meal when nothing vegan is offered when eating out.

Yesterday afternoon as I was driving home, I noticed a sign for u-pick blueberries. Since they are my most favorite fruit, I stopped and picked five pounds in just a few minutes! They are so huge and beautiful!! And delicious! Had them on cereal this morning! I love this time of year when we have all the fresh fruits--peaches, cantaloupe and watermelon too.

Not strictly vegan -- I still use egg whites here and there. As an ingredient in meat analogs, or as Egg Beaters for breakfast. Not much though. But yes, I lost 10 lbs., mainly by cutting down on snacks and eating smaller portions at meals. Or skipping a meal altogether, or fasting sometimes for a day. Would like to lose 5 more, but that's not as needful as those 10 were.

That thing is wrong. I put in that I was 200 years old and it said I should live to be 212! Well if I make it to 200 than I'm in heaven and will live forever. In the real world it said I would live to be 85.

3 years ago I walked the Appalachian Trail from Georgia to Maine, nearly 2200 miles, and was skin and bones afterwards, but according to that survey thing I was still overweight! Now it is saying I'm obese. How many obese people can walk 20 miles in a day with a pack on? But hey it was a fun thing to look at:)

hey Red,
you must look pretty good for a 200 year old man! [Wink] Seriously, tho, I don't really listen to what those calculators say. I mean, I know how much I weigh. I know what I SHOULD weigh. And as far as how long I love, only God knows that! That said, I plan to live a LONG, HAPPY life.....at Jesus' side..... [Big Grin]
