thanks avalee for sharing that wonderful advice!
it seems to go along with 3T 96-98... which is advice on HOW TO let go of the past... and twice in those pages God promises to heal the past when we give it to Him.
i've experienced this... my past used to be right in front of my face 25 hours a day 8 days a week, nothing i did would get rid of it. until i read those pages in 3T and realized that pop psychology wants us to wallow in our past, but God's way is to keep giving our pasts to Him. i did this each day for over a year, and finally one day the past was no longer the background grid i looked through!!
for the first time in my life i saw how beautiful the sky is, how green the trees and grass, and how incredible the flowers. it stopped me right along the sidewalk in sheer wonder, and i've not lost that wonder to this day!
now, i'm not saying that it has been easy street since then... somewhere in the SOP it states "satan's delusions are terrible"... and they are--as he keeps trying to make me "see" and think things in my life now are just terrible. he keeps trying to bring the past back to be the background grid i look thru... but i just keep on giving it to God... and the healing keeps right on happening!!
i'm gonna be so GLAD when rev20 happens, and all his lies, suggestions, impressions, doubts, delusions, etc are over. no wonder we will be shouting God's praises thru-out eternity!!
praise God, HE does keep HIS word!!

Using the demoniac example, there isn't anything wrong saying that I was a demoniac and Christ saved me, however, saying I was a demoniac and going into detail about my life as a demoniac wouldn't be the way to go. Going into detail about my new life in Christ would be the uplifting way to go. i've never understood why so many "testimony" books have chapters and chapters on the life before Christ; but only a couple pages on the life AFTER Christ. hmmm... something wrong with that picture...

If a person is really honest with themselves they should know when they are living in the past. Yes we are to give our testimony of how Christ has saved us, etc. This is quite a bit different than everytime you meet someone you are moaning and groaning over something bad that is going on in your life. Also you do not have to be actually telling anyone else about your trials yet still be living in the past. You can be thinking of them all the time and that is just as bad. Proverbs 17:22 A merry heart doeth good like a medicine: but a broken spirit drieth the bones
Proverbs 15:13 A merry heart maketh a cheerful countenance: but by sorrow of the heart the spirit is broken.About six years ago something happened to me that to this day I don't know why the Lord allowed it to happen. But it did. What had happened and the results ate on me continually. Know why it ate on me so much? Because I was continually feeding it. That is all I thought about day and night. On the way home from work I would cry my eyes out...at home I would cry. What did I end up with? Well I believe I was on the verge of a nervous breakdown. My stomach was hurting all the time..and espcially on the Sabbath Day. One Sabbath while I was sitting in this room at church my stomach was killing me...something happened and I made up my mind that I had to move on. I could choose to stay where I was and be sick all the time or find another place to worship God at. As soon as I left this other church the pains in my stomach started to go away and within a few days were gone. You know what we think about is OUR CHOICE..nothing is forcing us to do this. I was choosing to think about this thing all the time. Praise the Lord He led me to a church where He could heal me. I am not saying that there are times I do not think about what happened but I do not wallow in it any longer. I may never know why it had to happen and it may never be resolved. I have had to leave it in the Lord's hands and at His feet. Proverbs 23:7: For as he thinketh in his heart, so is he: Eat and drink, saith he to thee; but his heart is not with thee.Avoid Negative Thinking.--As we are not our own, as we are bought with a price, it is the duty of everyone who professes to be a Christian to keep his thoughts under the control of reason and oblige himself to be cheerful and happy. However bitter may be the cause of his grief, he should cultivate a spirit of rest and quietude in God. The restfulness which is in Christ Jesus, the peace of Christ, how precious, how healing its influence, how soothing to the oppressed soul! However dark his prospects, let him cherish a spirit to hope for good. While nothing is gained by despondency, much is lost. While cheerfulness and a calm resignation and peace will make others happy and healthy, it will be of the greatest benefit to oneself. Sadness and talking of disagreeable things is encouraging the disagreeable scenes, bringing back upon oneself the disagreeable effect. God wants us to forget all these--not look down but up, up!--Lt 1, 1883. {2MCP 662.1} Power to Choose Thought Topics.--It is within the power of everyone to choose the topics that shall occupy the thoughts and shape the character.--Ed 127 (1903). {2MCP 655.2}
