Hi there, In Sept. Stan and I are going through the Canadian Rocky mountains. What are our chances of seeing musk oxen. I think they are a beautiful animal. We are travelling Alaska extensively also going to some outpost to see polar bears crossing to an island for 4 days.

What does "ounou" mean?

As far as what type of wildlife you can see on the Rocky Mountains, I hope some of our out West members can answer that for you.

I haven't been able to find out what "ounou" means either. Appears to be a non-english word.

As far the musk ox, Ovibos moschatus, there is a Musk Ox Farm near Palmer, Alaska that has tours.

According to the Alaska Department of Fish and Game

"In 1990, approximately 2,220 free-ranging muskoxen resided in Alaska: 500 on Nunivak Island, 220 on Nelson Island, 500 in northern Alaska, 130 in northwestern Alaska, 700 on the Seward Peninsula, 150 on the Yukon-Kuskokwim Delta, with an additional 105 animals in captivity in domestic herds, research herds, and the Alaska Zoo in Anchorage. The Nunivak Island and Nelson Island populations have been stabilized by hunting; the other wild populations are expected to continue to increase and to expand their range."
