In Alberta, in areas north of Calgary where it was only -30 decrees C -- we had -40 degree (c) with wind chill close to -50 temperatures this past weekend. Some of our towns rated in the top ten coldest places in the world!
Of course all our natural gas furnaces (most homes here are heated with natural gas) were going almost none stop, so we survived without any issues.

But if the new mandates go into force -- we would be in life threatening danger.

Even with are furnaces using fossil fuel, the demand for electricity caused an Alberta ALERT to sound on all our phones!

The high demand on the electric grid was threatening to cause rotating power outages all over the province! We were asked to please turn off all non-essential electric devises, lights and appliances. Unplug block heater cords to cars, minimize space heaters, delay charging any EV. ....

Well Albertan's responded by turning off lights and appliances, demand on electricity dropped enough so we did not suffer electric outages. After all, when it's 40 below zero, we need electricity even for the Natural Gas furnaces to distribute heat throughout the house. So yes, avoiding an outage was a priority.

NOW

Is it realistic for-- the Premier of Canada to pass legislation to take away Natural Gas and all other fossil fuels and run everything on electricity ??? He's demanding this be done over the next ten years, and all our present carbon resource be shut down.

This past weekend hydro capacity was running full out.

The greater source of that hydro power came from natural gas and coal-fired plants, the ones the Trudeau government is telling the governments to shut down.

Alberta has wind turbines, but most of them were useless over the weekend. Only eight of Alberta?s 45 wind farms were producing any power and that at only about 3% of capacity. Even in favorable conditions they don't come close to producing enough hydro for needs we have now, while we still have natural gas heaters, and gas powered cars.

Electric cars are also rather useless at that temperature.
What would have happened if everyone was totally dependent on electricity to heat their homes and run their cars? Canadian winters can be brutal.

The climate mandates now being pushed make no sense -- except to destroy people's lives, economy, and freedoms.
Why would a government attempt to take away essentials to life with no realistic alternatives.

While people's furnace "motor" would run more under colder weather, I guess I don't understand how running a fan motor puts a big demand on the electric grid. It must be to the point of failing under normal conditions.
And I don't understand this lighting thing everyone makes about. Turning lights off isn't going to help much other than create this sense of doom for everyone.
Let's say you have 5 rooms, 100Watt light in each one, you leave on 24 hours a day. That is 12kw. Cost at 11 cents = $1.32.
But you don't have 100 Watt bulbs in 5 rooms left on 24 hours a day. So it's not even 12 kw.

Air conditioning is where the big draw on electricity is. Changing your thermostat 1 degree will overwhelm any savings of lightbulbs.
And heating with electricity is an even much worse draw. But if you used heat pumps, those would be similar to air conditioning.

I think you know why they are doing this. If you are in a rural area, not allowed to burn wood, no propane, only electricity, then you have a higher likelihood of times of no heat. That would encourage you to move to the city. By getting everyone to cluster to the city, by making everyone dependent upon electricity, allows them to control you more. A flip of the button, and the whole nation is shut down. What a wonderful empowering thing! Imagine if you were in that position. One push of the button and the world is on or off.

Physics says that every time you convert energy, you lose some. You don't even break even. So using gas to run a turbine to generate electricity loses quite a bit. Then you use the electricity to produce heat. So wasteful. It is said that once you have the electricity, converting to heat is fairly efficient, but I haven't seen the numbers. The global warmists say, but we use green power for electricity. Totally a separate issue. Calculate how much is wasted on making those solar collectors. A whole additional topic. Hydro power might not be too bad. But why when they promote solar, do they not give the cost breakdown. They keep a lot hidden. I think intentionally.

I have seen some numbers for solar panels and it comes up with quite a bit more cost for electricity. Only reason someone would go with solar is if they live way off from electrical connection and it's all they have available.

Again, this isn't about energy efficiency. Nor is it about cooling the whole outdoors. This is totally about power, control, tyranny. Keep people in fear of dying from the cold, and you can control them better. Get them thinking, government will take care of you.... as long as you do what they say.

Do we see any connection with all this change being pushed, with papal goals? -- seeking control -- government will take care of you -- ?

Does anyone remember the book "Keys of This Blood" by Malachi Martin, outlining the papal "Millennium endgame"?
Looking back now over the 25 years since the book was written, it is amazing to see the world moving, "helter and skelter" with many bumps along the way to be sure, but still steadily treading toward that goal to which John Paul II set the course.

The "common good" is very much part of that plan; the destruction of nationalism, and capitalism, and nations working together for the "common good" of all. With the papal moral and geopolitical influence at the helm, guiding the development of "common good" principles for all.

The Catholic writers (example)on the subject basically sound like this "common good" is advocating a universal, religious sounding, form of socialism. Reduce everyone to the same level of economic existence. They can still own things, BUT Anything a person owns, is to be used for the common good of all.

We may be out of electricity soon.
Black outs will become very common.
And they want cut back on other energy sources and even have all cars running on electricity?
A few snippets from Epoch News

Quote
As federal net-zero policies attempt to shift transportation, heating, and other essentials onto the electric grid, one of the hottest growth sectors of America?s economy is poised to increase electricity demand exponentially, further straining an energy infrastructure that is being pushed into the red.

Data centers, the so-called ?brains of the internet,? are industrial warehouses packed with rows upon rows of servers. They process, communicate, and store the data behind everything from bank records, online retailers, and social media platforms to Netflix shows and your personal iPhone videos.

Data warehouses consumed 17 gigawatts of electricity in 2022, or about 4 percent of total U.S. consumption. This is projected to double to 35 gigawatts by 2030.

A mere 10-foot-square space within the average data center consumes about 10 times as much electricity as the average home,.....AI computing doesn?t use CPUs [central processing units], but GPU-based systems instead, the GPUs [graphics processing units] are tailored to better handle complex mathematical functions,? he said. ?But there?s a catch: they draw between five and 10 times more power than similarly equipped CPU systems.?

This hefty increase in electricity demand strains a grid that is already predicted to feature power shortages and routine rolling blackouts in the coming years.
