If that were the case, no wonder the Egyptians looked at Moses and scratched their heads. All they had to do was dump algae in the Nile and voila! The water became blood. So it is not about "blood" anymore but about food coloring.

The sea became as the blood of a dead man. The sea does not turn into actual blood as in Revelation 8:8, 9 as this verse says as, emphasis on as, like the blood of a dead man. When one dies their blood coagulates meaning the blood turns into a semisolid or a solid mass as the heart is no longer pumping the blood through the body and the lack of oxygen causes the tissues and cells to die making the blood become a solid or semisolid in time.

God causes the water of the sea to become thick like the blood of a dead man. This possibly could come from and increase of algae called microorganism dinoflagellates that is already growing in the sea that causes a reddish thick substance. God in His supernatural powers could increase the algae on a massive scale. This will cause a lack of oxygen and food source that is vital for all sea life to exist as it will poison the water causing all sea life to die. The stench from the water and rotting carcasses of sea creatures would be tremendously unbearable and also shut down the fishing industry and also the trade industry as merchant ships will no longer be able to travel port to port by sea.

The third angel follows suit as he pours out his vial and all rivers and fountains of water that are our fresh water ecosystems are also turned to this thick form of blood like substance. The angel of the waters proclaims that the Lord is righteous in His judgments against those who have slaughtered the saints and prophets from the very beginning when Cain killed his own brother Able.

Those who have killed the saints and prophets of God are worthy to drink putrid waters of Gods righteous indignation as they deserve nothing better for what they have done against the saints and prophets of God as God has forewarned man to not touch His anointed, 1 Chronicles 16:22; Psalms 105:15.'

The point is that the plagues are deliberate acts of God through His messenger, not random acts of natural disasters.

• When God asked Satan about Job and Satan accused God of protecting Job, God told Satan that he, Satan, may go ahead and test Job. Satan then went out and brought natural disasters on Job's head. That is one case.
   
• The second is NOT like that. When God sent Moses to Egypt to urge Pharaoh to let Israel go, God specifically told Moses to say a certain thing. We know that that certain thing would come to pass, Pharaoh would plead for relief, Moses would pray for him and the certain thing would go away. Those certain things (blood, frogs, lice, darkness, etc) were NOT natural disasters but deliberate acts of God through Moses.

Therefore one ought not to wake up, rub one's eyes, look at the TV, see some dead fish, jump out of bed and run down the street, shouting, "The end! The end is nigh! The plagues are here! Finally, we get to see the plagues!" That is certainly not what Revelation 16 is about.

And that you have some sort of anticipation for it.

The obsession over prophecy and prophetic utterances, over tea leaves and crystal balls, over numbers and words and omens is not the way of the Christian. Eternal Life and Heaven begins right here, right now and we are its ambassadors, going about doing good and preaching the gospel of salvation to any who would take the citizenship test and be born again unto a new and living hope. We live and die, and one day, we'll rise again and continue on forever!

In fact, that is the whole point of Jesus's words to Martha when Lazarus had died, "I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in Me, though he may die, he shall live. And whoever lives and believes in Me shall never die. Do you believe this?" John 11:25-26
