Through the SOP we have been told that certain types and/or kinds of foods are not good for us. Here we will post scientific information that shows why such foods are not good for us and their effects on our minds and bodies.

Spicy Foods May Jump Start Allergies

By Christine Kuehn Kelly

If you're allergic to certain foods, you may want to eliminate hot spices from your diet, experts say. Some spices such as pepper and paprika may interact with the lining of your intestine and increase the chances that allergens pass from the foods to your body.

Normally, cells called epithelial cells that line the small intestine band together to guard against allergens entering the bloodstream. Researchers have found, however, that hot spices such as cayenne and chili pepper can cause the cells to separate. This allows the allergens to enter the body and create a typical allergic reaction.

This may account for the coughing, runny nose and watering eyes some people have after eating a spicy food. The reaction may be especially likely to occur when consuming spicy foods along with certain milk or wheat products. These foods have large proteins that usually are blocked by the epithelial cells. But when hot spices are also consumed, the epithelial barrier breaks down enough for them to enter the body.

If you have a food allergy, it's best to avoid that food. If you do consume it, experts caution, go easy on allergic reaction combinations.
