Here is a quote from an internet news article:
"Tue, 06 May 2003 0:32:05 MONTREAL - A leading diplomat told a international economic conference on Monday that if globalization doesn't benefit all citizens, it could threaten international trade treaties, or even lead to more terrorism.
"We need to convince people in every country that this whole effort makes sense," said Cesar Gaviria, secretary general of the Organization of American States."
Does anyone know what "Globalization" is? What/who is behind it, and why?

David, Globalization, as I understand it, is the linking together of every area of life on this planet, industrial, personal, educational, economic, business, you-name-it. It is happening because of the technology that allows us to access people/information at the touch of a button or two. Do a web search - about.com has the best explanations I have found.
grace, peace, patience... Murian

Thanks Murian... It leaves me wondering who is behind it all; and how they are directing it... Maybe others will have bits of info we can put together on this?

Hi there, Being a citizen in a poor African country the main effect of globalization is that the trade barriers and tarrifs have to go, poor African nations are normally coerced to dismantle the barriers so as to get access to critical donor aid. The main movers of globalisation (on the trade front) are the IMF the World Bank and the World Trade Organisation. Blessings & Happy New Year, EDWIN

Edwin,
Does any of this help those poorer nations? I mean, have you seen the standard of living improve in Kenya, and if it has, do you think it has to do with this globalization?
It's interesting to hear from someone on the 'other side' of the economic fence.

John, From what we have witnessed is that our citizens are getting poorer and poorer because the country imports farm produce which has been subsidized in the countries of origin while our countries are not allowed to subsidize our farm produce. As a result our farmers can't market their produce due to it's higher cost, this has also made a few importers extremely wealthy. Therefore this phenomenon has created a few wealthy individuals and many more poor people.
Blessings, Edwin

Edwin,
That's sad to hear, and pretty much what I expected as a response.
The rich few get richer, and the poor masses get poorer.
We can sure be glad that we have the promise of "a better country, that is, an heavenly" (Heb. 11:16); where such inequality won't exist!
And from the looks of things on this earth, we'll be there before too long. Though the road from here to there will get pretty treacherous; stormy traveling ahead. Let us hold firm to the hope, and not let go of God's grace. I hope to see you there.
