Greetings,
I recall in Academy, the Dean of Women getting married. She was planning to get married at the end of the school year.
She explained that the first day of marriage even while on the honeymoon, is always to be devoted to God. That it would not be until the second day of marriage that they would consummate their union.
As I look back on this woman, I see that she loved God dearly and did put Him before anything.
Therefore, 1 Cor. 7:4,5 can speak to us again, that Adam and Eve most likely turned to God in thanksgiving first.

As one Bible teacher of mine put it, God's first command to Adam and Eve was to "Go out and have sex". Would it not show devotion to God to follow that command?
(Your Bible teacher may have said "Be fruitful and multiply")

Dear Winsor, Please note, Bible history shows that Adam "knew" Eve after their fall. quote: Genesis 3:22 And the LORD God said, Behold, the man is become as one of us, to know good and evil: and now, lest he put forth his hand, and take also of the tree of life, and eat, and live for ever: 3:23 Therefore the LORD God sent him forth from the garden of Eden, to till the ground from whence he was taken. 3:24 So he drove out the man; and he placed at the east of the garden of Eden Cherubims, and a flaming sword which turned every way, to keep the way of the tree of life. Chapter 4
4:1 And Adam knew Eve his wife; and she conceived, and bare Cain, and said, I have gotten a man from the LORD.
Hope this helps.

I've heard the above texts used to say that sex came about only after the fall and before the fall there was some other mechanism for multiplying. I think that those who look at sex as somehow dirty or almost sinful like this idea very much.
However the text does not say that Adam "knew" Eve only after the fall, it was only then that she conceived.
The beauty of marriage, and how two people, as they become closer to each other also become closer to God leads me to believe that making love on the Sabbath, or any other day, is a good thing sanctioned by God to not only strengthen the marriage but to bring the couple into a more full relationship with the Creator.
The act of making love is further proof that we did not evolve from some bit of slime in the sea, but were in fact created in a literal 7 day creation week by a loving Creator.

Greetings Redfog,
Truly, the act of procreation is not dirty, nor do I read anyone in this post suggesting that it is sinful. For what God creates is a blessed.
If you have testimony of the Lord that the works of procreation on the Sabbath is granted and favorable rather than a fast from our own works, please do provide His testimony.
Thank you, Sr. Cheri Fritz

When it comes right down to it I don't think there are texts that can point either way on the matter. My guess is that the Bible writers never envisioned there would come the time when this subject would come up on an internet forum My only testimony is how I've approached this in my own life, having a great marriage based on a relationship with the creator, and our view of sex and how it brings us closer together and to God. To tell the truth this is not something that I've ever even thought of as something to abstain from on the Sabbath, nor have I ever heard any seriously say it should not be done. It's just seems logical to me that when something brings a couple closer to the Creator it must be a good thing. I think we all do that which is pleasurable on the Sabbath. We go to church, we eat, sometimes at potlucks, we take walks in the woods and study Gods word. These are all things that are pleasurable but are still doing the will of God. Sex is no different than a walk in the woods ( Well of course it is but hopefully anyone reading this will get my drift) We are to bring honor to Him in everything we do. If a couple feels that making love is too much pleasure on the Sabbath I guess no one is forcing them to do it. It all boils down to a personal choice of what they do on Gods Holy Day. Some wade to their ankles, other to their knees and some just plain go swimming, if you get my analogy. The important thing is that we keep the Sabbath Holy, how we do it is a personal choice. Redfog

Greetings Redfog,
Sabbath is a wonderful holy day. It is where the Lord comes to visit with us. Every moment is so valuable to stay and be with Him.
Perhaps your understanding of Sabbath is different. I know that the true labour is one that begins right after Sabbath is done. It is one where you are sad to say goodbye to the Lord, yet you are happy because you have an entire week to prepare(sanctify-holy clean of sin) yourself for Him.
And I am sorrowed that you have not provided verses for your belief. If we are to say things, then we must be sure of what we are sharing is truth with thus saith the Lord.
What ever your faith may be, let us never forget keeping open hearts to God. Thus we need to pray for a clean heart, a renewed spirit(Ps 51:10) and the mind of Christ(1 Cor 2:16) and ask for the Holy Spirit(Luke 11:13) to teach all truth(John 16:13).

Like I said Cheri it comes down to a personal choice and your own convictions on what you do on the Sabbath. To me if something brings me closer to my wife and to God it's a good thing to do on the Sabbath, that is if there is not some sort of guidence from scripture or SOP on the subject. To each his own on this I guess.

There is a precedent where God commanded that married couples shouldn't engage in sex during a special time of sanctification: Exodus 19:10,11,14,15 -- King James Version 10 And the Lord said unto Moses, Go unto the people, and sanctify them to day and to morrow, and let them wash their clothes, 11 And be ready against the third day: for the third day the Lord will come down in the sight of all the people upon mount Sinai. . . . 14 And Moses went down from the mount unto the people, and sanctified the people; and they washed their clothes. 15 And he said unto the people, Be ready against the third day: come not at your wives. (The New International Version says, "abstain from sexual relations"; the New Living Translation says, "abstain from having sexual intercourse." Etc.) I'm not at all sure that this event, the giving of the Ten Commandments, has any parallel application to the weekly seventh-day sabbath; but we do have this precedent for abstinence during a time of special sanctification. What do you think? Any connection between the two, or not?
