I heard many people say that constructive criticism is good. What then is the definition of constructive criticism? ----------- In His Love, Mercy & Grace Daryl

I personally consider "constructive criticism" to consist mainly of suggestions for improvements. Simply to point out what might be wrong without any suggestion as to how it may be improved isn't as useful, but can prompt some thought into ways of solving the problem. So that can sometimes be constructive criticism too. I think the main identifying factor is the desire to be helpful, though we can fool ourselves into thinking that we are trying to help when in fact we are only trying to make ourselves appear superior, which is the true motive behind destructive criticism. Any time we have any ideas of anyone else's efforts needing improvement, we should examine our own hearts very thoroughly, with much prayer, before we ever open our mouths. And then, the person we should speak to is the one who is doing the work and can actually make the change, not to anyone and everyone who is willing to listen. ------------------ The Lord is the strength of my life and my portion forever.

I read over Wednesday's study titled, Fear of Criticism. You should read the thread in the Sabbath School forum. I am not sure if the title of Wednesday's lesson is an appropriate title, but then again, maybe it is. Please read the thread there and tell me what you think either there or here. Maybe we need to get away from criticism which is destructive and replace it with something constructive such as rebuke and reproof and exhort as the text says below: 2 Timothy 4:2 "Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine." ----------- In His Love, Mercy & Grace Daryl

Not at all. You Critize when you point something out about another person. In The EGW quote above she is simply stating a general Truth. I see NO persons being named here, do you? Growing up with a lot of critism, my own personal experience jhas been that there isn't such a thing as constructive critism, any and all that I received had only one affect on me,.... it tore me in two. Living with critism does much to destroy self worth, confidence and trust. I never saw one single instance of critism coming from the mouth of our great example, Jesus. He rebuked [calling the leaders of Israel whited seplechures] He exhorted [telling the desciples they could do what He did and more] but, He never criticised, look at the woman caught in adultery, He never once said anything critical to her, in fact, He told her He didn't accuse her and to go and sin no more. to me, criticism is just that, critism. It has one main purpose, to put someone down and destroy them. This is what I see, from my experience. Critism hurts. Critism destroys. It ought not to be. ------------------ What is popular is not always right. What is right is not always popular.
